What injuries are you most likely to deal with post-accident?

California has its share of accidents, just like any other state. But as a driver on the roads here, you may be wondering what type of accident-related injuries are the most common. By knowing what areas to keep a close eye on, you may be able to avoid complications or missing potential issues.

Forbes put out a list of the most common injuries that drivers like you can suffer after an auto accident. Some are injuries that are immediately apparent, but others may have delayed symptoms, or symptoms that get overshadowed by the more obvious issues. For this reason, it is suggested that close attention be paid to any area that pain is radiating from. For example, it's quite common for smaller broken bones to go unnoticed, such as broken toes or fingers, because the pain from other areas tends to drown it out or make it difficult to pinpoint.

Concussions and whiplash are both also common, and whiplash itself is often undertreated. While you may be tempted to write off your sore neck or shoulders or headache as something inconsequential that will clear up on its own, you may actually be doing more harm than good by waiting to get it looked at. The muscular strain and tears associated with whiplash can result in painful headaches, backaches, neckaches, and may even alter your posture. Concussions can also appear more benign than they are at first, and should be assessed by a professional even if you don't believe it to be serious.

The closer you monitor your body during the healing and post-accident period, the better. Your chances of catching a serious issue will increase, allowing you to truly maximize the healing period and get back to your life more quickly.
