A motorcyclist is dead after a devastating accident in Los Angeles. The crash happened in the Winnetka neighborhood on Tuesday, October 9, around 8:15 p.m.
According to the police officers who responded to the scene, it appears that a sedan and a motorcycle were both coming toward the intersection where Vanowen meets Oakdale. They believe that the driver of the sedan attempted to turn left in an unsafe manner, causing the motorcycle to slam into the car. Reports claim that, for at least part of the crash, the rider was physically beneath the sedan.
Pictures from the scene show multiple police cars parked in the street with their lights flashing. It is dark out, but onlookers can be seen on a nearby street corner. The intersection is a significant one with yellow crosswalks running in all four directions.
Video of the crash site shows that the motorcycle itself was badly damaged in the accident.
At this time, police say they are still investigating to see exactly how the deadly wreck played out. However, they did note that the driver of the car remained at the scene after the wreck, which suggests that he or she is cooperating with the authorities.
Though it is unclear exactly how this crash happened, motorcyclists notoriously have problems with drivers turning left in front of them, often because those drivers simply do not see the bike and do not realize they are cutting it off. If you get injured in an accident or lose a loved one, you need to know exactly what legal options you have.
