Why should you go to the doctor after a crash?

You would go to the doctor after a major health issue. If you became sick, for example, or if you fell and broke a bone. Many people also go to doctors for screenings after a major surgical procedure, just to make sure everything is healing correctly. Vehicle accidents are very much the same, but very few people go to the doctor after what they perceive as a minor incident.

You would probably want to seek medical attention as soon as possible after you had an auto collision. This is certainly the case if you had any type of injury. However, medical attention could also be informative after a crash that did not seem to harm you in any way.

Head injuries

One of the most common injuries in many types of motor vehicle accidents is traumatic brain injury. These injuries range from extreme trauma to relatively mild bumps. However, every degree of brain injury could have significant consequences, especially if left unattended.

A doctor could listen to the details of your accident and discuss the possibility of various injuries with you. Sometimes, you may not recognize the symptoms until you know what to look for. In other cases, symptoms may not appear until hours or even days after the collision occurs.

Spinal and neck injuries

Spinal and neck injuries have the potential to lead to a lifetime of consequences. It is important to understand the severity of any potential spinal problems as soon as possible. That way, doctors have the chance to minimize long-term effects and maximize the chance of recovery. Doctors can diagnose some of these injuries by traditional means, but others may require advanced imaging.

If you worry about the cost of medical attention, try to consider it as an investment in your future health. Furthermore, you could be entitled to repayment for any diagnostic or treatment procedures you undergo, as long as the court accepts they were medically necessary. Along the same line of reasoning, it is probably wise to get a medical opinion before you accept any payment or signed any agreements with the insurance company representing the other driver.
