Slip-and-fall accidents are all too common in workplaces across California and the rest of the country. These accidents can easily be avoided if employees are aware of their surroundings. Checking for hazards that can cause someone to fall is an important part of the workday in Los Angeles. Let's take a look at some of the common causes of slip-and-fall accidents in this post. Issues with flooring can cause various levels of slip-and-fall accidents in the workplace. Loose carpets, broken tiles, missing floorboards, damaged treads, and many other problems with flooring can lead to these accidents. When a floor is wet, it should be properly marked so that everyone in the office knows to avoid that area or walk gingerly across it. Many slip-and-fall accidents happen on stairs. Stairs can be dangerous even if they are kept in good condition. Missing steps, broken steps, missing treads, debris, and even polish or wax can cause a slip-and-fall of someone in the office. Stairs that have missing pieces or nails sticking up from them are especially dangerous. What about outside the office? The property surrounding the office is another common place where slip-and-fall accidents occur. They can be caused by ice, snow, puddles, debris, and uneven pavement. You also need to be on the lookout for holes in the ground, such as on the lawn of the property, when going for a walk. Suffering an injury in a slip-and-fall accident does not have to ruin your day or force you out of work for an extended period. Be aware of your surroundings and report any hazardous conditions to your supervisor immediately.
